I work on a variety of projects all at the same time--some just words, some just illustrations, some both. When I write, part of my creative process is to use objects, photographs and illustrations to help me see a character or a setting, so sometimes, I have illustrations to go with my words even when I'm not hired to create art. And the same goes for my art process. Sometimes I write a story to help me create a character or scene.
View a sampling of current projects in the studio in the slideshow below. Sometimes, this area will be blank/not recently updated if I do not have my own studio-generated projects in process and am working on confidential client work. Watch this space for updates!
A recent example of how I sometimes just do one part of a book. I wrote this book as J.A. Watson (a shared pseudonym used for the series written by multiple authors), but did not illustrate it. Find this book on Amazon by clicking this picture.Go to link
This is an illustration I created that Raksha, the main character in Runway ZomBee, drew in her journal.
This is some of the art I drew to help me picture my main character, Raksha, in Runway ZomBee (from Jolly Fish Press/North Star Editions). She's twelve years old, half Indian, half Chinese, and she wants to be a fashion designer and a scientist. This art style was how I saw her drawing herself in cartoon form.
I wrote this book as J.A. Watson. I like what the illustrator (not me, I wrote it but did not illustrate it) did with the character. You can find this book on Amazon by clicking this picture.Go to link
